Oakland/San Quentin, CA WOC Thank You Letter

Once again, we have had the privilege of witnessing the miraculous power of God to transform lives, and this time, in the “Golden Gate City”.   The Bay Area of Northern California is known as “The Golden Gate” for many reasons.  This past weekend 1,779 men and women asked God to save their souls, and prayed to receive Jesus Christ.  They stepped through the true Golden Gate, from the kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of Light.  It was amazing! 

The memories of October 2008 for these men and women will not be baseball playoffs or football games.  Their memories will be of volunteers like you who cared enough to take time out of their own lives to attend a Bill Glass Weekend of Champions.   Over nearly 40 years of ministry, we have seen this simple act of service become the key to unlocking the hardened hearts of tens of thousands of inmates.   Volunteer Teammates, dedicates, look hurting inmates in the eyes and offer them hope!  For many inmates, this is often the very first time they have felt cared for since they were sent to prison.   This is why, next to the power of the Gospel itself, our volunteer Teammates, have always been and will always be the strength of this ministry.

And in addition to the privilege of praying with inmates to receive Christ, we were privileged to hear stirring testimonies from several former inmates, who are now our teammates!    At our Friday night gathering, everyone witnessed “eight living miracles”: Jack Murphy, Jerry Graham, “Big D” (Conrad Garcia), Richie Nichols, “Kilroy” (Ernest Roybal), “Big Al” Aceves, Dennis Rice, and Sandy Martinez.  Each of them have crossed that Golden Gate from death into life because someone like you cared enough to take time out of their own life to spend time sharing the Truth with them.  And perhaps several years down the road, someone that you shared Christ with on this weekend will be back as a teammate as well.   

Thank you for your obedience, your service and your sacrifice.  As our country heads into an uncertain future, it is certainly wise to “be about the Father’s Business.”   Thank you for your participation in this Weekend of Champions.   We look forward to seeing you on a future Weekend, and thank you in advance for inviting others to join you as well.
